MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER
Detour: Life Under Construction
"It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.”
Psalm 119:71
Life is sometimes like a highway still under construction--just when a driver leans back and feels all is perfect there is sure to be a detour. Adversity strikes and we must go over some rough roads.
As we travel the detour we can look across and see the highway. It looks finished and ready for use and we wonder why it is not open. So it is in life. We have troubles and look back at the good days and we wonder why we could not have gone on in the same comfortable path. But we must not forget that detours are for our own safety.
So also are we safe in the storms God sends us. In fact, they are for a purpose. Often the purpose is to bring us into closer fellowship with God; to realize our dependence upon him.
When we are faced with adversity, we might remember Milton who, though blind, yet saw Paradise. Beethoven was deaf, yet he wrote beautiful harmonies. Adversity is something to be overcome.
We can overcome if we put our trust in God. It is good for us to be afflicted so that we may be brought closer to the God we worship.
We, as believers, need to ask God to strengthen our faith, help us face our trials, and have peace in our hearts.
